Oils, Lubricants, Grease

Motor/engine oils

Motor oil, engine oil, or engine lubricant is any of various substances that are used for lubrication of internal combustion engines. The main function of motor oil is to reduce wear on moving parts; it also cleans moving parts from the sludge, inhibits corrosion, improves sealing, and cools the engine by carrying heat away from moving parts.

Hydraulic oils

Hydraulics describe the transfer of energy and signals through fluids; power is transferred to drive, control and move.  Hydraulics fluids based on mineral oils, synthetic fluids and fire-resistant fluids are used in all types of machinery and equipment.

Synthetic oil

Synthetic oil is a lubricant consisting of chemical compounds that are artificially made. Synthetic lubricants can be manufactured using chemically modified petroleum components rather than whole crude oil, but can also be synthesized from other raw materials. Synthetic oil is used as a substitute for petroleum-refined oils when operating in extreme temperature.

Grease

Grease is a semisolid lubricant. Grease generally consists of a soap emulsified with mineral or vegetable oil. The characteristic feature of greases is that they possess a high initial viscosity, which upon the application of shear, drops to give the effect of an oil-lubricated bearing of approximately the same viscosity as the base oil used in the grease. This change in viscosity is called shear thinning. Grease is sometimes used to describe lubricating materials that are simply soft solids or high viscosity liquids, but these materials do not exhibit the shear-thinning properties characteristic of the classical grease.

Molykote

Molybdenum disulfide is the inorganic compound composed of only two elements: molybdenum and sulfur. The compound is classified as a metal dichalcogenide. It is a silvery black solid that occurs as the mineral molybdenite, the principal ore for molybdenum.  It is unaffected by dilute acids and oxygen. In appearance and feel, molybdenum disulfide is similar to graphite. It is widely used as a solid lubricant because of its low friction properties and robustness.
